What does this mean? What's the difference between just 'Carbon Neutral' and 'Lifetime Carbon Neutral'? It's quite simple really. By working towards 'Lifetime Carbon Neutral', VELUX is not only committed to reducing its carbon footprint in the future, but also to look back over the years and capture the carbon footprint of the company to date. In collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, VELUX has developed new models for calculating this and the aim is to provide forestry and biodiversity to capture 56M tonnes of carbon. As far as we know, VELUX is the first company in the construction industry, and certainly one of the first companies of any kind to take responsibility for not only its present and future carbon footprint, but to take responsibility for its historical carbon too.
The VELUX Group's Lifetime Carbon Neutral pledge and partnership with WWF have been recognised by the United Nations as a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) success story and therefore accredited as an SDG Good Practices initiative.
